Smith's Bid for Two-Weight Title Ends in Stoppage Loss

QUEBEC CITY, Canada (AP) - Artur Beterbiev retained his WBC, IBF, and WBO light heavyweight titles with a seventh-round stoppage victory over Callum Smith on Saturday night.

Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) knocked down Smith twice in the second round before getting the deciding knockdown in the seventh. The Russian-born fighter landed a devastating right hand that sent Smith (28-3, 22 KOs) crashing to the canvas. Smith got to his feet but was unable to continue.
